Our Objectives
Our Objectives
The goal of DRS is to attempt to establish a locus of change for the client that is congruent with their ethical principles that is “internalized” and that is enduring. Hopefully, this engenders resilience that will help stabilize them in times of stress and chaos. It is important that they can come to see their thoughts as powerful and as potential barometers as to their emotional Wellness and need for change. As the process of treatment continues which utilizes medication in tandem with various therapeutic modalities that help mirror back to the client “roadblocks” to growth some of which may be unconscious to them it is hopeful that they can start to address them gradually.
The goal would be to restore balance, optimal functioning and even self-autonomy. The principle can be applied to the gestalt of a group or even a corporation. Since I have worked with many complex medical cases and more specifically with Co- occurring cases with substance use disorders, I am well acquainted with the defense mechanisms which need to be addressed in working with clients on different levels of change. In these cases, it is important that a very strong alliance is formed and that a respectable communication style is used and that rather than dictatorial style.
This is especially true if they can see that there have been repeated consequences from the same choices. The mission of action taken toward the same roadblocks. I have found that over time clients have made some choices that were positive sometimes after going through learning through trials of relapses and self-sabotage… But because they have “owned their choices and internalized the process over time the transformation has been enduring and sometimes amazing. And this is why I love my work…!
